Keuken #1: Introduction

KEUKEN is a one-day food festival which addresses the issues of the utilizations of city public spaces through the wisdom of the street-inspired culture. KEUKEN is requestioning the role of the city and its honest correlation to the context of the everyday life. KEUKEN gives you a lookout, to see the urban environment amid the pressure of modernity, to experience its ambiguous passion, its function, its appeal, by way of celebrating the most exciting practice of everyday life, eating.

The synthesis of Built environment issues and the pleasure of eating that it calls --in the relative under developing circumstances—is apparently designed to construct an atmosphere of continual exploration, leisure, and stimulating ambience in searching of new values of the better urban living.

KEUKEN reveals the lost gap that lies between these two interesting by marrying the desire of a daily basis appetite and its spatial needs at the same time. KEUKEN roams the possible landscape and reclaims particular public domains. KEUKEN is a festive approach on how we could all win back the civic assets in the first place— from what is now illegitimately owned by certain individuals--, and somehow turns it into an urban kitchen, the space where all the sort of tasty spices from various handpicked emerging chefs and food restaurants all over the town gather round so that everyone can cheers, and value both the space/the spices.

KEUKEN is ecstatic to encourage you to get to the bottom of our everyday life challenges, and exploring both the critical notions and range of practices come from its nature

KEUKEN #1: THE MAGNIFICENT COW BARN July 24th 2011. Cikapundung Timur Street, all day long. Reclaim your streets, and eat.

Community Engagement

Cikapundung and Braga Community

Celebration of Independence Day
doc. Bagasi 01, 7/01/2011

Keuken is obliged to honor the site, the given context, and the society a giving back in response to the long term partnership between the event and the particular environment where it takes place. Since Keuken is more to an ignition than a wrapped-end celebration of related values, we are aware that each of its ideas should never get started --or finished-- only to refer an event that is memorable for its mere appearance, spectacle.

Through its series of events & sub-events, we attempt the audience to engage and appreciate the given site and its local community as the part of the parade. Keuken comes to a function of the urban regeneration mock-up for the attendants meanwhile at the same time it also exhibits the prospective potential of the local-genius to the wider public.

For years, the Cikapundung & Braga community have always been open to welcome people by providing their living areas (streets / pedestrians, squares, parks, skylines) for everyone else's fete; This time we aim to do the giving back by working together with them and create a sequential event that cordially fits to both parties aspiration; Team up with the youngster, we generate an interrelated concept of sub-events like the 'Cikapundung - Independence' or 'Breakfast cooking contest' for the Braga and Cikapundung's voluntarily working mothers and housewives --where everyone can judge and taste the foods—by means of joint effort toward the better understanding of urban environment place making.

To us, the vibes of the street –for even each inches of its spatial assets-- as well as the involvement of the local community that celebrated through everyday life merriment, have to get the chance to be elevated as a big start in creating a genuine urban environment. It is the most clear cut to do within the city's daily nerve-wrecking mess that by and large confuses the future development— and all this, is only a way of doing it for our city. // photos courtesy of: Komunitas Cikapundung (Bagasi 01)

Harvest Tasting Event (In Conjunction with Bdg Berkebun)

Through collaboration, Bandung Berkebun & Keuken had worked together on simple ideas called The Harvest Tasting event, an event that brought the mini-farm harvesting experience and the natural food producing know-how combined at the same time.

Bandung berkerbun & Keuken set this initiative to share stories to youngsters & children about plants, nutrition, and growing healthy food. By encouraging and supporting the mini farm program, we believe we are supporting the society to create opportunities for our generation to discover fresh food from a healthier food sources, a better nourished food, and a greater way to serve them as everyday dishes.
